Kahal Zur Israel Synagogue
In the 1600 the Dutch dominated Pernambuco for about thirty years. Although for history is a short period, with the regency of Prince Maurice of Nassau the city was marked indelibly by the works and culture of the Dutch. The Jewish community brought from Amsterdam has vigorously forged the foundations of local commerce. With the expulsion of the Dutch by the Portuguese, many Jews returned to Europe and others were beaten on the north coast of North America.
